The generator's lines each take a description, a number and a price per unit. For a carpentry job, give each material its own line, with the number of pieces as the quantity and the price per piece as the rate, and put labor on a separate line as hours times your hourly rate. Name the job or the room in each description, so the customer can tell which part of the work every charge covers.
Tax in the preview is a single percentage over the whole subtotal. Where a state taxes materials and labor differently, check its rules before relying on one rate.
Worked example, with sample figures: floating shelves for a kitchen use 3 walnut boards at $85.00, 3 × $85.00 = $255.00, and 6 brackets at $12.00, 6 × $12.00 = $72.00, with 5 hours of fitting at $70.00, 5 × $70.00 = $350.00. The subtotal is $255.00 + $72.00 + $350.00 = $677.00 before any tax.
