A row in the preview is one charge, made up of what it's for, how many and a dollar price. Advisory time can go in a single row, entering the hours you worked and your fee for one hour; a fixed-price deliverable, such as a report, is a quantity of 1 at the agreed price. Name the engagement or the purchase order number in the first description, so whoever approves payment can tie the invoice to the agreement.
Travel or other costs the client agreed to reimburse can sit in a row of their own at cost. A tax percentage, if you enter one, applies to the subtotal; whether consulting is taxed depends on where you work, so look up your state's rules. Worked example, with sample figures from the first rows: six workshop hours at 6 × $175.00 = $1,050.00, a market research summary at 1 × $900.00, and agreed travel at 1 × $240.00. That gives $1,050.00 + $900.00 + $240.00 = $2,190.00, the total when no tax is entered. Use your own rates.
