Each line in the preview needs a short description, a number of units and a unit price. A fixed-fee project takes one line, a count of 1 priced at the whole fee. Billable hours become the count, your hourly price the unit price, and the description names the task in words the client will follow. A license or a device purchased for the client gets a separate line.
The preview has room for one tax percentage across all lines. Ask your state's tax agency how it treats the services, software and hardware on the bill before you enter a rate.
Worked example, with sample figures: a server setup at a fixed fee of $2,200.00 (1 × $2,200.00), 5 hours of network troubleshooting at $115.00 (5 × $115.00 = $575.00) and a one-year backup software license bought for the client at $240.00 (1 × $240.00). The subtotal is $2,200.00 + $575.00 + $240.00 = $3,015.00, the same total the preview gives with no tax entered.
