Invoicing Software for IT Consultants

In the US, the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook says: "Computer systems analysts study an organization’s current computer systems and design ways to improve efficiency." (BLS, checked October 30, 2026.)

IT consulting work is billed in a few ways: hours on a project, such as a network setup or a migration; a fixed monthly fee for ongoing support; and hardware or software you buy for the client. Your contract with each client sets which of these apply and how they're billed.

Billed's recurring invoices page says you can "Choose whether to send invoices daily, weekly, monthly or yearly" and "Auto send invoices or save them as draft to recheck and send later." The same page says Billed "keeps all the payments and invoices related to that profile in one place."

Billed's invoice software page says you can "save the products and services you sell so you can pull them into an invoice instead of retyping them." Billed's help article on items and services says: "You can use these items and services to bill your clients."

Billed's invoice software page says: "Save your tax rates and settings once, and Billed calculates taxes automatically when you create invoices and estimates." Whether the hardware and software you sell are taxable depends on your state, so ask your accountant.

These are sample figures. An IT consultant sets up a small office network at 120.00 an hour and logs 12.5 hours against an hourly rate project: 12.5 × 120.00 = 1,500.00, invoiced from the project. The consultant also supplies two routers at 189.00 each, billed on a separate invoice using the saved product: 2 × 189.00 = 378.00.

The client receives two invoices, for 1,500.00 and 378.00, a total of 1,878.00 before any sales tax. The rate and prices are examples, not suggested prices.

Billed's help article on payment reminders says: "You can set a schedule of payment reminders before and after the invoice's due date."
