• Why Save Items and Services
  • Add an Item or Service

Items and services are the products you sell and the work you bill for. In Billed, you save them once in a list under Settings, with a name, price, tax and description, and then pick them when you create an invoice or estimate instead of typing them again. Billed's help center says: "You can use these items and services to bill your clients."

Billed publishes this page. The steps and button names are quoted from Billed's help center article What are Items and Services? (updated April 27, 2026) and from Billed's invoice software and estimating software pages, all opened on October 30, 2026. For how line items work on an invoice, see how to create itemized invoices.

Why Save Items and Services

Billed's invoice software page says you can "save the products and services you sell so you can pull them into an invoice instead of retyping them." Its estimating software page says you can "customize units and quantities for each product". On estimates, Billed's help center article How do I Create an Estimate? (updated April 26, 2026) says: "Add them to estimates by writing the item's name and selecting it to autofill the entire section."

Add an Item or Service

Billed's help center gives these steps. The button and field names are as it writes them:

  1. Go to Settings in the left menu and select Items and Services.
  2. Click the Create New button "from the right side."
  3. Add the name under Item Title.
  4. "Now write the sale price of an item or service." Then: "Next, you have to write the unit price."
  5. Tax (optional): turn on Taxable and choose Amount or Percentage, then add the amount or percentage. The help center says: "This tax will be automatically added to the invoices and estimates where you use this item or service."
  6. Description (optional): "It could be the characteristics of items or services or any additional information."
  7. Press the Submit button "at the bottom to save the item details."

The help center adds: "Items and services can be sorted by title, purchase price, and unit cost."

Edit or Delete an Item or Service

  • Edit: go to Settings, click Items & Services, open the three-dot menu beside the item, choose Edit, make your changes and press Update "at the bottom to save the new information."
  • Delete: go to Settings, click Items & Services, open the three-dot menu beside the item and choose Delete.

See Which Items Sell

Billed's help center article What is an Item Sales Report? (updated April 27, 2026) says: "You can view this report to analyze the amount generated by the sale of each item." To open it, click Reports in the left menu, then Item Sales under Invoices & Expenses Reports. You can filter the report by date range and export it. Billed's invoice software page says: "See which products and services are selling and create offers for your customers."

Sample: Two Saved Items on One Invoice

The business and figures here are a sample, invented for this example. A web designer saves two items:

  • Design hour: $85.00
  • Website hosting, monthly: $40.00

For one client's monthly invoice, the designer picks both from the list and enters the quantities:

  • Design hour: 6 × $85.00 = $510.00
  • Website hosting, monthly: 1 × $40.00 = $40.00
  • Total: $510.00 + $40.00 = $550.00

This sample has no tax. If an item is set as taxable, check the total Billed shows before you send the invoice.
