Billed published this announcement on April 1, 2019, and it stays here as a record of the launch. The first section below describes the product only as that post presented it at the time. Names, screens and features have changed since then, so the second section quotes Billed's current features page instead.
What the April 2019 announcement listed
At launch in April 2019, the announcement presented an online invoicing platform for freelancers, small and medium-sized businesses, agency owners and self-employed people, with the stated aim of helping them get paid faster. It grouped the product into seven areas:
- Invoicing. Creating, saving and sending invoices; due dates that could be changed after an invoice was saved; payment reminders sent after an invoice went out by email or link, with an editable reminder email; a conversation with the client on the invoice page; saved discounts; a currency per customer or per invoice; an edit and payment history for every invoice; taxes worked out from saved settings; and custom terms, printing and instant updates.
- Online payments. Clients could pay on the invoice through Stripe or PayPal once the user added their own API keys. The post said more payment gateways were planned.
- Estimates. Estimates built from saved client and product details, which could be printed or emailed.
- Clients. A saved list of clients and customers, each with its own history.
- Products and services. A saved list of products and services, used when filling in invoices and estimates, with history and reports.
- Email templates. Editable versions of the emails sent to customers: new invoice, payment, reminder, thank-you and credit note.
- Reports. Invoices that were fully paid, partly paid or past due; top customers; defaulters; and the top-performing service and product.
